The Ken Sheffield adaptation of this dance is well loved for good reason and I'm not going to suggest we should stop doing that. But for those that are interested in how the original went, it's something closer to this. It's quite a bit simpler, and still very satisfying.

A1 (8) Right hand star (4)
Left hand star (4)
A2 (8) 1C cross and cast (4)
1C ½ figure 8 up (4)
B1 (8) With the next couple, circle left (4)
With the current couple, circle right (4)
B2 (8) 1C lead up through 2C and cast down again (4)
1C 2-hand turn, 2C joining in if they wish (4)

First and 2nd Cu. Hands all 4 across half round and back again  ·

Cross over half figure and foot it and turn  ·

1st Cu. Hands round with the 3d. Cu. and then with the 2d.  ·

Lead thro' the 2d Cu. cast off and turn your Partner  ·

Note that cross over means "cross and cast" in today's parlance. Quite how you can fit in a foot it and turn I don't know, so I've left that out. The rest is pretty clear.
